17 Tips for Faster, Healthier, and Easier Weeknight Dinners

AKA Adulting 101. Does this sounds familiar:

3 p.m. Decide on a way-too-complicated recipe to make for dinner that night, because you have just had your afternoon snack and are feeling invincible.

6 p.m. Go the the grocery store and buy all the ingredients you need. This inevitably takes a full hour.

7 p.m. Come home, unpack the groceries, and start chopping things.

9 p.m. “OH MY GOD WHY AM I STILL DOING THIS I SHOULD HAVE JUST ORDERED THAI.”

If you too have become addicted to Foodora and Uber Eats, then read this article.

My Beauty Uniform: Afzaa Motiwala

I loved this insightful look into Afzaa’s beauty routine and philosophy. She talks about her love affair with makeup, her relationship with her faith, and starting her own business.

Olivia Palermo X Banana Republic SS2017

I love Olivia Palermo (just take a look at my Pinterest feed) and I love Banana Republic, so this collection is a real treat for me! I like its nod to the 90s, and totally unstructured new layers. This is a whole new BR!

Iskra Lawrence’s Instagram

I recently started following Iskra on Instagram because she is such a breath of fresh air! She is a successful model, and advocates for responsible retouching (and often no retouching at all!). In an age where young women are bombarded with image after image of “perfect” bodies, I think Iskra is an awesome role model – and totally brave for showing off and embracing her curves and “rolls”.

After ‘The Biggest Loser,’ Their Bodies Fought to Regain Weight

This article was absolutely fascinating. My heart goes out to the contestants who worked so hard to become healthy, and who are now struggling with damaged metabolic rates:

“Researchers knew that just about anyone who deliberately loses weight — even if they start at a normal weight or even underweight — will have a slower metabolism when the diet ends. So they were not surprised to see that “The Biggest Loser” contestants had slow metabolisms when the show ended.

What shocked the researchers was what happened next: As the years went by and the numbers on the scale climbed, the contestants’ metabolisms did not recover. They became even slower, and the pounds kept piling on. It was as if their bodies were intensifying their effort to pull the contestants back to their original weight.

Mr. Cahill was one of the worst off. As he regained more than 100 pounds, his metabolism slowed so much that, just to maintain his current weight of 295 pounds, he now has to eat 800 calories a day less than a typical man his size. Anything more turns to fat.”

Advice To My Younger Self

A round-up of wise words from 11 women. As another birthday approaches for me, I’m starting to reflect on what advice I’d give a young Jocelyn 🙂

The robot that takes your job should pay taxes, says Bill Gates

Interesting interview with Bill Gates! Watch the video in the link for the summary.

“In a recent interview with Quartz, Gates said that a robot tax could finance jobs taking care of elderly people or working with kids in schools, for which needs are unmet and to which humans are particularly well suited. He argues that governments must oversee such programs rather than relying on businesses, in order to redirect the jobs to help people with lower incomes. The idea is not totally theoretical: EU lawmakers considered a proposal to tax robot owners to pay for training for workers who lose their jobs, though on Feb. 16 the legislators ultimately rejected it.”

Alternatives To Jeans | No-Denim Outfits

This video is for all the fashionistas out there. This is the kind of content I LIVE for – it’s why I fell in love with blogs and content creators in the first place. YouTuber Lizzy Hadfield explains her search for alternative outfits that swap out jeans for a different silhouette. It can be too easy to rely on your same old pair of skinny jeans! Lizzy creates a moodboad to pin down the “look” that she’s going for, and then goes on a shopping journey to find the right pieces to put the outfits together. Yes! Love it!

On My Mind

“On My Mind” is a new series I thought I’d start on the blog. I’d like to share interesting things I’ve read/heard/experienced every couple of weeks, that have stuck with me or made an impact. Feel free to leave a comment and reciprocate 🙂 simon sinek on millennials “It’s as if they’re standing at the

Maxi Coat

Today’s post was inspired by my gorgeous mother – she could look glamorous in a paper bag because she carries herself with grace and confidence. I absolutely love when my mom gets dressed up. She styles her hair elegantly, picks out the loveliest diamonds and pearls, and leaves a subtle hint of Angel by Thierry

Unconstructed

Hey friends, During the holidays Jocelyn got me a really nice camel coat for Christmas from Club Monaco, and in an unprecedented move, I decided to return it. The coat was beautiful; it looked great, fit me perfectly, and of course Jocelyn picked it out for me. She was sort of very annoyed with me for

5 Happy Things You Can Do On Blue Monday

Start a Gratitude Journal One of my new year’s resolutions was to start writing a journal again. I can’t commit to lengthy, detailed posts – I’ve tried and failed over the past two years and now have a compilation of random entries in several notebooks (usually written when I was having bad days). I picked

Something Old Something New

Happy New Year! I’m starting 2017 off with a cold weather outfit post – although in reality it would actually be too frigid in Toronto to wear any kind of footwear without socks at the moment. Perhaps at a later date I’ll show off my clunky boots and parka, but I thought we could begin

Winterlicious 2017

I find very little to look forward to in January and February. There is nothing worth celebrating – Valentine’s Day is just ok, and I have my period anniversary but that’s no cause for joy. The days are cold and dark, and my arthritis flares up when it gets this chilly. Also, I get so
