Jocelyn and I recently spent the day in Toronto’s beautiful Sunnybrook Park, enjoying the autumn leaves and perfect weather that we get for about 4 weeks each year. I had my camera, some cool street clothes on, and we were able to get an outfit shoot out of it.
Forget about the weather, the awesome park, and all that great stuff for a moment – this post is all about sneakers and how people are nuts about them.
The sneaker game has gotten serious and the everyday struggle on trying to get the hottest kicks in the street can be exhausting. People are absolutely crazy about getting the latest pair of Adidas, Nike’s (these b**ches wan’t nikeees), New Balance, Asics, etc. and every week we’ll see a hot new pair releasing and people lining up. How and why did I get into it? By no means do I consider myself an actual ‘sneakerhead’; it’s also a very expensive namesake. There are hundreds of people who have their own YouTube channels: TheRealRayRay20, The Sole Brothers, Brad Hall (this guy is hilarious in a strange way), and OhItsTeddy (the BOOST god) to name a few, and all these guys talk about is sneakers and their lives around sneakers.
Today’s outfit post features me wearing a pair of Adidas Originals NMD City Socks. To give you guys a quick background on them, they’re a fairly new sneaker style by Adidas (released in 2015). It combines old design concepts with new technology – Primeknit and Boost cushioning. The Boost cushioning (the white sole) is actually a very interesting piece of design created by Adidas and world leading chemical company partner, BASF. I would say that they are right now one of the most popular, sought-out pairs of shoes. There are currently three different classes of NMDs – the runners (R1), city socks (CS1), and the new XR1. Whenever a new colourway is released, ‘sneakerheads’ camp out storefront making sure that they’re first in line to get a pair. Count yourself lucky if you were able to get them at retail price – these city socks were completely sold out in the first 30 seconds at the online Adidas store.
Why are they so popular? Well, you’ll probably see fashion and music icons, Kanye West and Pharrell Williams rocking them. Not to mention the athletes, celebrities, and fashion enthusiasts all caught wearing them. And be honest, they are pretty cool looking!
What do you guys think about my sneakers? It doesn’t matter because I look like a futuristic ninja in them and that is pretty awesome.
Until next time,
