Station Eleven

station-eleven-comicStation Eleven is one of the few books I’ve read over the past year which has really stayed with me.It is a post-apocalyptic novel, focused on several different storylines which eventually connect. The main focus is a traveling theatre troupe which performs Shakespeare and orchestral masterpieces in different “towns” after the collapse of our civilization. It’s quirky without being twee, it’s dark without being dramatic, and it’s nostalgic and relatable without being overly sentimental. It was a truly unique book, and that’s saying a lot coming since this book fits into the post-apocalyptic dystopian genre, a theme our generation seems to be fascinated by.Andrew M. Butler, jury chair of the Arthur C. Clarke award put it best when he stated: “While many post-apocalypse novels focus on the survival of humanity, Station Eleven focuses instead on the survival of our culture, with the novel becoming an elegy for the hyper-globalised present.”Station Eleven Comic by Nathan Burton
