What I'm Wearing for Summer 2021
Is it just me, or do the summer '21 trends feel really young? Maybe it's because my formative years were the 90's and 00's, so seeing all the fads return feels more nostalgic than anything else - I have no desire to reach for strappy halter tops or baguette shoulder bags.
I've also been thrown for a loop by my recent move to a much warmer climate. It's regularly hotter than 30°C here, which means my usual penchant for layering is completely impractical. I've resorted to wearing my jean shorts and oversized linen shirts way too often, and have been starting to feel sloppy.
Time for a wardrobe reset! Today I'm putting together a capsule for super hot weather, that will look chic (maybe even on trend!) and keep me cool.
white shell top / black cami / mixed metal earrings / white linen shirt / double chain necklace / linen blazer / beige linen shirtdress / black smocked linen dress / tan linen shorts / wide leg cropped chinos / white jeans / raffia bag / round sunglasses / white platform sneakers / dad sandals / clogs / coral lipstick
Linen
There are a few reasons this capsule works well - the primary reason being that the majority of the items are linen. Not only is this functional (I can't think of another fabric I'd rather wear when I feel like I'm walking through muggy air), but linen just looks so chic in the summer!
Neutrals
Admittedly, my normal wardrobe is MUCH more colourful, but if I need versatility to mix and match then neutral tones are the way to go. I also think black, white, and beige look beautiful paired with gold and silver jewellery.
Trends...grown up
One trend I can get behind is the switch to comfort - I think this trend is here to stay. Silhouettes are loser (like the boyfriend fit of the blazer, the straight leg and white leg cut of the pants in my capsule), footwear is practically orthotic (I'm obsessed with dad sandals and clogs!), accessories are minimal and easy to wear. I'll never give up my fit-and-flare summer dresses and high heels...but I'm much more inclined to reach for my comfy pants and shoes!
What are you wearing this summer? Are you getting back into your pre-lockdown wardrobe? Have you changed your style at all? I'd love to know!
Thank you so much for reading xox :)
