Month in Moments: June

June was a month full of celebrations and happy moments. Here are some of the highlights :)

Also let me preface this by saying that all of these activities have adhered to social distancing guidelines in Ontario - it feels nuts that I need to disclose this, but people on the internet can be cray cray. Ok, here we go:

My brother is an m.d.!!

My brother graduated from medical school, and we could not be prouder. This is literally what my grandparents immigrated to Canada for!! Travis worked so hard to achieve this milestone, and my heart is just so full and happy for him. I know I'm biased but he really is going to be the best doctor. He is so caring, thoughtful, intelligent, rational, and patient. I am tearing up just thinking about how big of an achievement this is for him. Ok, next highlight!

Summer in the City (outdoors)

Azim and I have been spending the weekends outside as much as possible. We've gone for walks at:

We also tried to go to The Bluffs, but the line to park was soooo long, so we bailed. I recommend going early, or parking on a side street and walking.

outdoor dates

I've finally seen a few of my best friends! As fun as the Houseparty app is, there's just no substitution for IRL dates with girlfriends. I missed them so much, and seeing them has been restorative.

My Brother is Married!!

Ok, so this was really a month of milestones for my baby bro who is MARRIED!! We celebrated with a small legal wedding ceremony and lots of Sri Lankan food, and they jetted off to Tobermory for their mini-moon :)

P.S. They also just bought a house - I'm not kidding when I say he's my little big brother!! Can't wait to visit them all the time muahaha (yes, my sister-in-law is a saint who puts up with me with more love and patience than I'll ever deserve :) )

What Azim and I wore to the celebration!

Prince Edward County Weekend getaway

Azim and I spent a weekend in The County at our favourite boutique hotel - Merrill House :) I'll write a separate post on what it was like to travel with COVID-19 restrictions in place, and what our itinerary looked like in a separate post!

Watched, read, loved

Queen of Fashion: What Marie Antoinette Wore to the Revolution by Caroline Weber

This book covers the life of one of my favourite historical figures - Marie Antoinette. It follows her journey as a naive princess from Austria, to one of the most infamous queens of all time - and how fashion played a big part of her story. I was surprised by how well-researched this book was, and all the amazing little details included about what day-to-day life was like for her at Versailles. I borrowed this as an e-book from the library, but I'm considering buying the actual book because the e-book did not include the wonderful illustrations that really bring this work to life.

THIS MOVIE IS SO FUNNY AND GOOD!! WHY AREN'T MORE PEOPLE TALKING ABOUT IT???

Unlocking Us featuring Laverne Cox

This episode - Brené with Laverne Cox on Transgender Representation, Advocacy + the Power of Love - was extremely timely and relevant. I learned more about intersectionality, and what I can do to be a better ally. Next up, I'll be watching Disclosure on Netflix.

Hope you had a wonderful start to your summer!! Thank you so much for reading xox
