Creative Date Ideas
I had my doubts about writing this post - there’s nothing new under the sun, and a quick Google search for “Creative Date Ideas” will probably generate a list similar to mine. I didn’t think it would be useful to add my own compilation to the pile.
But then I started calling my friends to do some research (“What was the most creative date you’ve ever been on?” and, “What was the most creative date you’ve ever planned?”) and realized that few of them had ever really experienced a “creative” date! Special? Oh, definitely. The dates they described were all romantic, but they didn’t really involve anything out of the ordinary. I think it’s just easy to stick to a fancy dinner, or a night at the movies!
So I’ve made a short list of unique date ideas, which are also easy to plan. Whether you’ve just started dating, or if you need to breathe some life into a long-standing relationship, I think these ideas are sure to be a hit!
Trivia Night
I don’t know about you, but I think a little healthy competition is a good way to turn up that attraction dial. And playing in a room full of strangers? Even better!
This is a great date idea for those lovebirds who are just getting acquainted. You really don't know a person until you’ve seen them lose their shit over random questions on obscure topics.

Take a Class
The couple that learns together, stays together! That’s not a real saying, but it should be. I suggest taking a class on a subject that will be a first-time experience for both you and your partner. This way, you get to bond over something new - whether it’s a positive experience or not!
Easy planning: check Groupon for discounted classes. Or, search for these tried-and-true ideas: cooking, knife skills (yes, this is a thing), pottery, live-sketching, paddle-boarding, jewellery-making, sexy time, dancing, etc.
Do a Food Crawl
More romantic than a pub crawl, but less demanding than a dinner date. A food crawl usually focuses on a theme, or a neighbourhood. There’s always a guide who keeps the conversation flowing, and the food is guaranteed to be delicious.

Get Physical
I think I once read that women are attracted to the scent of their partner’s sweat. I’m not so sure about that, but I do know that working out together can be a lot of fun! And I don’t mean hitting the gym (yawn). Why don’t you try something a little more primal, like axe throwing? Or more childlike, like trampolining? You could also rent a tandem bicycle (weather permitting) and explore a neighbourhood (I would suggest the Island if you’re in Toronto). And if you need to get some pent up frustration out, kickboxing is always great!

See a Live Show
This might not be “creative”, but it’s all about getting out of your comfort zone. When Azim and I visited Seattle a few years ago, I wanted to take him on a really cool date. After doing some research, I came across this super popular and very exclusive burlesque show. I had seen burlesque before, but it was Azim’s first time and I think he loved it ;)
You could also try something a little more tame, like stand-up comedy. Or how about a good old fashioned magic show?

Create Your Own Tasting Menu
Feel like staying in? Instead of stressing out over what to cook, try creating your own tasting menu. Visit your local wine shop or liquor store and ask an expert for a variety of 3-4 wines and pairings. After picking up the wine, swing by a specialty cheese shop to buy the appropriate cheeses, crackers, and other crudités (fancy word for “snacks”). Put on some mood music, pull out the fancy dishes and you’re all set!
