A Flair for Flares

I've been wearing flared denim pretty much non-stop for the past couple of weeks."Are bell-bottoms back in?!" my dad asked me as I was running out the door, my jeans swish-swishing with every step."Daddy! Were they ever NOT in??" I gave him a very teenage eyeroll as I swished away.I've always had at least one pair of flared jeans in my wardrobe since I started buying my own clothes. Maybe you think that's a fashion faux-pas, but I'd spin it as having a very clear sense of what I liked from a young age ;) From Calvin Klein to True Religion, I cherished them all - but my favourite have to be this dark wash pair from Banana Republic. The best part? I got them on sale for $24!I think a good dark wash pair of flared jeans can be extremely flattering. They elongate the legs, and can be worn casually or dressed up. The trick is to buy a higher cut waist, and keep the top simple. If you pair the flares with a billowy peasant blouse, or suede fringe, you could end up looking like a walking ad for Coachella (and that's not a compliment). Instead, opt for clean cut shirts, or a basic blazer like the one I chose here.To add a little something extra, I went with a striped turtleneck instead of a solid coloured shirt. I also chose black and white spotted calf-hair pumps, because it's all in the details! It's hard to notice the pattern since they're hidden underneath the hemline, but I like that they peek out just a little :)I've been giving this blue suede bag a lot of love lately! I guess there have been a lot of beautiful finds at Banana Republic over the last few seasons.
