Her Majesty's Pleasure

I’m not one of those girls that invests a lot of time and money into pampering and maintenance. If you know me well, you know I’d rather spend my hard earned $$$ on shoes. But after just one visit to Her Majesty’s Pleasure, and I think I’m a new believer!

Her Majesty’s Pleasure is every girl’s happy place. First of all, it’s immaculately designed. I visited in the evening, but even then it felt light and airy. Some nail salons can feel almost clinical with their fluorescent lighting and cheap posters on the walls. Not so at Hmp!

The first thing you see upon entering is a gorgeous bar, and tables where patrons can sip on a cocktail or latte. The appointment counter is at the back, past trendy copper and rose gold decor. The staff are friendly and accommodating—the host helping me when I visited happily changed my original appointment from a pedicure to a mani-and-pedi combo. She then pointed me in the direction of the polish, which is on display like art. As it should be!

Hmp stocks really cool brands of polish like Smith&Cult (have you seen those beautiful bottles?) and trusty favourites like Deborah Lippmann. There is no shortage of colour, and many options for nail art.

I had my pedicure while sitting in an adirondack chair and sipping a customized cocktail. The bartender came over to take my order, and I asked him to make me anything with whiskey and ginger—it was delicious! I sat there wondering why I haven't mix drinks with salon services more often :)

After my pedi, I had my manicure done while sitting at the bar. It felt totally relaxed, and I happily chatted with Azim who had come along. He had been hesitant to come at first, but even he felt comfortable sitting at the bar next to me. It didn’t feel like a stuffy visit to the spa, it was just like going out with friends and getting pampered at the same time!

Hmp also offers facials, waxing, and blow-out services, which I’ll be sure to try next time. They are on trend with offerings for cool braids and beachy styles.

I’ve read reviews which complain about the higher price points for the services - but I’d have to disagree with them wholeheartedly. This isn’t a typical chopshop where you pay $35 for a mani, a pedi, and possible nail infection. It’s a gorgeous establishment with premium services. And honestly, I think the prices are totally fair. Both the women who worked on me were professional aestheticians. I didn’t feel rushed, or uncomfortable in any way. Every single staff member there made sure to ask me if I had everything I needed, and created an exceptional experience for me.

So my verdict? Grab your girlfriends and go get pampered before a night out. Make sure one person is the designated camera-person, because this is the most instagrammable outing you’ll have all week :)
