Blending In/Standing Out
Today's outfit is brought to you by winter! Winter dressing is always a challenge, because it's hard to feel well-dressed when everything is hidden underneath a coat. The trick then, obviously, is to wear a beautiful coat!I love the coat in today's outfit because it's so elegantly understated. The houndstooth print is a muted brown-navy combination, and the cut of it is very clean and prim. It could easily be worn to work, to dinner, or to run errands. It appears to be a very ordinary coat, and it is not until closer inspection that one notices the gorgeous black jewels studding the collar. The difference is always in the details! To bring an extra pop of colour and happiness to the ensemble, I chose to wear these buttery soft Ted Baker gloves. The hot pink leather is perfect, and I love the tiny rose-gold bow on each wrist. They are instant "jollifiers" - just little things that make me smile :)I was lucky on this particular day that there was no snow or slush. It was the perfect opportunity for me to wear these patent leather ankle boots. Growing up, patent leather always seemed so sophisticated. I had a pair of black patent leather mary-jane flats with velcro fastens, which I would always pair with frilly ankle socks. But only on special occasions! Maybe that's why I secretly feel a little fancy now anytime I wear patent leather shoes ;)I'll admit that I'm a little worried about shooting outfit posts for the next couple of months. My main priority has always been to remain authentic with what I share on the blog - it's just not realistic that I wear stilettos in snow storms. I'm hoping for milder temperatures, but at the same time I hope that you enjoy my OOTDs which will feature my trusty parka!Stay warm! xoxoxCoat - J.Crew / Turtleneck - Banana Republic / Lace-trim tee - J.Crew Factory / Jeans - Citizens of Humanity / Shoes - J.Crew / Bag - Alexander Wang / Gloves - Ted Baker
