MoRoCo Afternoon Tea Review
A couple of weeks ago during my “staycation” in Toronto, I decided to take my mom for afternoon tea. You may have noticed that going for tea is sort of a thing for us :) Although we’ve frequented many tea rooms in Toronto, we hadn’t tried the afternoon tea service at MoRoCo Chocolat in Yorkville. I thought that MoRoCo only sold macarons and other confectionaries, but thanks to Groupon I now know they have a gorgeous dining room and delicious tea!
We chose to go on a Wednesday afternoon, and had the place almost to ourselves. I loved the interior of the tea room/restaurant area, because the design is dark and opulent. The plushy loveseats and chairs look like they are fit for royalty, and fancy sconces and lamps adorn the walls. It definitely feels more like “Alice in Wonderland” than the tea room at the Windsor Arms!
We chose to go for the traditional afternoon tea, although they also serve high tea, which has the addition of quiche and/or mac&cheese. Our afternoon tea included finger sandwiches, petit fours, and fresh scones - we left with food babies in our bellies, so I don’t think I could have eaten another bite (although it is hard to turn down mac&cheese)!
The scones were my favourite part because they came out warm - and one of them was CHOCOLATE! I’ve never had a chocolate scone before, and I’m not sure I’ll find one better than MoRoCo’s!! I would honestly go back just for that scone :)The tea itself was lovely as well. We were presented with two boxes to choose from, with many different varieties. I went with a vanilla-y English Breakfast, and my mom opted for Chai. They were brought out in unique tea pots (mine looked more like Aladdin’s lamp), and I had the perfect amount without needing any more hot water.
My mom loved the long mirror hanging on the wall next to us, because it gave her a full view of the front of the lounge. People-watching is an absolute standard pastime during afternoon tea ;)
I had a wonderful date with my mom, and I’ve asked her to give me some highlights of her experience:
“The service was very good, the food was delicious! I would say the Windsor Arms is better value, so I’m glad we visited with a Groupon. The decor is definitely unique and whimsical, but I am more traditional myself.
I’d like to say again that the staff was very helpful and accommodating. We arrived an hour before our reservation, but they were happy to seat us (so we didn’t have to go shopping - dangerous with Jocelyn)!
The scones were delicious, and I liked the different choices. The tea was piping hot, as it should be. My one criticism - the couch almost ate me! I needed a booster seat for the loveseat because I sank right into it. Jocelyn had to switch places with me, and I sat in her firmer chair. “

I like both the Windsor Arms and MoRoCo because they’re different from each other - The Windsor Arms is where I’d go if I wanted a traditional afternoon tea, followed by shopping. MoRoCo is where I’d go if I felt like playing dress up, and treating myself to a pampering sort of afternoon.
