Shoe Love III

When I saw these shoes pop up on the U.S. Banana Republic website, I was certain they'd be sold out in no time. Banana Republic Canada doesn't sell shoes online, so I continually visited the closest brick-and-mortar location, anxiously waiting for them to arrive so I could snatch them up!When they did arrive, there was also a 40% off promotion happening, so I felt like I'd hit the jackpot :) But to my surprise, they didn't sell out at all! They sat on the shelf all season, being passed over for nude pumps and black sandals.I was discussing this with the sales associate (who had also purchased a pair), and I remarked on how shocked I was that the shoes weren't as popular as I had predicted."They're too crazy! Most ladies don't know how to wear them," she said to me. And I realized I was looking at them through a Jocelyn-filter. You see for me, loud patterns/cool textures/bold colours = neutrals that everything else can be layered on top of.When I saw these shoes, I immediately thought of at least 10 outfits I could wear them with. I have more trouble with classic black pumps, because I'd always rather reach for a more unique option instead.I was at Winners with my cousin this weekend, and spotted a pair of hot fuschia pointed-toe pumps with rainbow glitter block heels on sale for 50% off in her size. I looked desperately for a pair for myself, but they only had the one pair left."You NEED these!!!" I told her."But what would I wear them with?" she asked."EVERYTHING!!! What would you NOT wear them with?" I replied :)"Ok, WHERE would I wear them?" she countered."Uhm, brunch?" - that is my standard answer anytime someone asks me that.What can I say? I'm a crazy shoe person, and I cannot be stopped :)Back to these satin lavender platform pretties. If these shoes were a woman she'd have a feathered haircut and live perpetually in the 70s. She'd wear false eyelashes and bell bottoms, and she'd never wear a bra. Her favourite song would be White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane, and she'd listen to it while chain-smoking and drinking small glasses of champagne. She'd be able to stay up all night and sleep in til noon, and when she'd roll out of bed her hair would somehow look fabulous in a messy kind of way.Here's a photo of me wearing the shoes last year :)Thanks for reading! xo
