Weekly Bests 2019.22,23
As spring turns into summer, I've been finding lots of opportunities to celebrate: wedding festivities, birthdays, Pride month, the Raptors winning the NBA Championship, the sun finally shining.
I think the celebratory mood will last for a few months to come - Azim and I will be taking off for Sweden soon, followed by my bachelorette ;), followed by our own wedding! Eek!
On to the weekly bests:
Dinners and Brunch
My wedding planning budget/period of austerity means that I've been limiting how often I eat out to special occasions with girlfriends. A nice dinner or brunch is one of my favourite ways to spend time in Toronto! We have some of the best food in the world in this city :)
My family and Azim know this, and were sweet enough to treat me to dinner and brunch - the past couple of weeks we went to La Carnita TWICE, and tried out brunch at The Good Son.
I think there are mixed reviews on La Carnita, but I personally love it. The tacos are great, the cocktails are fun (my mom crushed the purple haze in about 5 minutes flat), the desserts are delicious! I always get the pollo frito taco, who shot ya cocktail, and cookie monster paleta (the churros are bomb too).
Azim and I also really enjoyed The Good Son. He ordered the eggs florentine, and I had prosciutto pizza. The interior design and ambiance really add to the experience as well! I love the semi-private dining areas in the location at Don Mills.
A Night at The Symphony
Another TSO season has come to an end for us! I think this last show was the greatest yet. And not just because the symphony donned Raptors apparel and played the score of Jurassic Park :)
We watched Modern Broadway, and it was incredible. There were multiple standing ovations, and my mom said it was the best show we've been to. I say this every time I post about the TSO, but if you are under 35 and live in the city you really should check out the TSOUNDCHECK program! It's incredible value for money, and you're supporting the arts!
Pride Month
It's Pride month! A few awesome things worth noting:
- This incredible video and fundraiser for the Trevor Project created by Eugene Lee Yang from the Try Guys
- This gorgeous makeup - 100% of the net proceeds from the sale of this makeup will also be donated to The Trevor Project
- T.Swift's surprise performance to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Stonewall at the Stonewall Inn
- This tweet which made me lol
- Let us never ever forget this iconic video :D
LOVE IS LOVE
My Bridal Shower
As with other wedding-related events/planning/festivities, I think I'll reserve an entire post for this. But I wanted to include it on this list because it was truly one of the best days. I am so grateful to my mom, aunt, cousin, sister-in-law, and everyone who made me feel so gosh-darn loved and special. There aren't words to express how grateful I am.
Thank you for reading and have a lovely week ahead :) xox
