My Bridal Shower

I debated back and forth for so long abouthaving a bridal shower. I knew it would be a lot of work for my aunt, whograciously hosted, my MOH, who organized it, and my mom who does everything allthe time.

I also wondered if my guests would trulyhave fun – I couldn’t get over the feeling that my nearest and dearest wouldhave to spend their time, effort, and $$$ on me. It felt really self-indulgent.

In talking it over, I admitted that I wouldnever feel that way about my friends who have showers or celebrations – I lovecommemorating life events like getting married, having a baby, getting a newjob, etc. and I never feel like my friends are asking for attention.

So with that being said, I am really glad I let my aunt, MOH, and mom throw my shower. If any of you feel similarly – you don’t like letting others going out of their way to treat you – my advice would be to let them. Let them, and enjoy it! Chances are, they love you and are truly happy to celebrate you. And you, most likely, would do the same for them.

My aunt hosted my shower in the party roomof her condo in June. It was beautiful, and we decorated with helium balloons,a balloon garland, bouquets of flowers, and a kick ass dessert table.

My soon-to-be sister-in-law :) spent so much time putting together the stunning bouquets, and my aunt sourced beautiful crystal and glass vases to put them in on each table. I loved them!

My cousin and MOH went above and beyond with all the desserts. She is a very talented baker, and made all the treats just the way I like them (the cupcakes had extra icing :)). She even made bridal shower themed cupcake stand with my mom! She also made a custom cocktail (a “grown up Shirley Temple”) and decorated all the glasses.

My mom put out a delicious spread of teasandwiches, cheese, crackers, fruits and veggies. She sourced dozens ofbeautiful, high quality vintage teacups to fill with tea and handmade cookiesfor our favours. She spent countless hours coordinating, planning, andorganizing everything, and I am so grateful.

My MOH and STB SIL had a bunch of fun games organized for us, but my favourite had to be the toilet paper dress game. My friends and family are very talented designers, and came up with hilarious renditions of gowns :)

We opened gifts last – I was apprehensive about doing this too, but my mom said it was traditional to do this...

I understood why at the end :) While I was opening gifts, she was collecting all the wrapping paper and insisting I keep the paper and ribbons intact instead of ripping them. I thought she was just being frugal and saving the paper for reuse, but that wasn’t the case! My godmother and her were secretly making a wrapping paper dress for Azim to wear!

This is tradition in my family, as you’ll see in the picture below! I don’t know why we do it, and I don’t know if anyone else does it, but it’s silly, and hilarious, and a lot of fun :) My lovely godmother is actually really creative – I think her design was pretty good! She also brought homemade biscotti to the shower, which I loved <3

I truly felt showered with love, and I am so grateful to all my loved ones who celebrated, sent gifts, and wrote me notes. I am also beyond appreciative to my Auntie Anne, Jasmine, Amentha, my mom, and brother for all the effort they put in to make it the perfect celebration.
