My Month in Moments - February 2020

For me, this past month could be summed up by the phrase "work hard, play hard". I pulled some long days at work, but made time to have fun, and hang out with loved ones. Here are a few highlights:

Afternoon tea at Casa Loma

As part of Winterlicious, Casa Loma ran a special afternoon tea service. I went with my mom, ah-po (grandma), and soon-to-be sister-in-law :)

I would give the experience 10/10 and the tea service 5/10. The tea was served in courses, rather than all together on a tiered stand - it's personal preference, but I prefer having it all at once so that I can pick and choose between scones, petit fours, and sandwiches at my leisure (is that the bougiest sentence I've ever written, or what). Because the venue was so big, the food was obviously prepared in bulk, and it tasted that way.

Although the tea service was so-so, I would STILL recommend it for the experience alone. Sitting in the conservatory was absolutely stunning, and we were also able to tour the rest of Casa Loma after we finished having tea. I love Casa Loma's history, and the extravagance of the building and gardens. It's so over-the-top that the house almost feels like a caricature of itself. It's just as beautiful in the winter as it is in the summer, so I always suggest tourists visit.

Winterlicious

Besides Casa Loma, I was able to try a few other restaurants as well. A lot of people think Winterlicious isn't worth it, but I think you just have to do your research and pick the menus that are worth going out for.

As much as I love food, the reason I love eating out so much is for the wonderful company I go with. A long conversation with a friend is more restorative and just as enjoyable as a perfectly executed meal.

Date nights with Azim

Azim and I went way too long without seeing each other when the new year started - January was a tough month for both of us. But luckily in February we were able to celebrate his birthday and have a few date nights. One silver lining of being in a long distance relationship, is how much I cherish our time when we're together.

Wine and cheese

I didn't snap a picture, but my cousin and I had a long overdue wine and cheese night :) I can't WAIT for our date to the Vintage Show coming up this weekend!

My grandparents' anniversary

My ah-po and ah-kung celebrated 61 years of marriage. I am really close with my grandparents, and feel so fortunate to have them in my life. We have dinner together almost every Sunday - my first cousins, aunts, and uncles included - a tradition I know we all cherish.

Work

I've written about my struggles with finding work-life balance, and it's still something I'm working on. This past month I really leaned into the long days and challenges, and set my perspective to one of gratitude for how much I'm learning. For someone with no marketing background, it's pretty incredible that I get to be part of a really small team executing the biggest campaign our department has ever produced.

What's not to love? Sweet/suite seats, snacks, and Drake-watching all evening :D

AirPods

Azim bought me some AirPods recently...and I love them. I never thought I would be an AirPods person. They look so dumb - I will never change my mind about this. BUT THEY ARE SO CONVENIENT. Omg. As someone who commutes and works out with earphones, I can't even tell you how much easier they've made my life. They're great. That's all.

A time before cell phones

One of our fav restaurants was closed unexpectedly one night, and when we walked up to the doors Azim and I saw these sticky notes. It made me smile, and think about what life must have been like before cell phones existed. What else could you do if you had to change your meeting place at the last minute? I hope Rachael and Sam found each other :)
