DanceBreak

Karen Kain Swan LakeOne of my friends at work just recently told me about The National Ballet of Canada’s DanceBreak program, and it is amazing! If you are between 16-29 years old, you are eligible to buy discounted tickets to ballet performances at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts. That’s how I was able to see Alice in Wonderland in an orchestra level seat, for $45!How does it work? You can sign up for free, here. You can always check online for performances that you are interested in, but you’ll also receive emails about what’s coming up next and how long the shows run for.You can buy the discounted tickets for the performance you want to see, by logging in online any time after midnight (12:00 AM) the day of the performance. Tickets for orchestra level seating and the Grand Ring go for $45, while Rings 3, 4, and 5 are $35.I know the ballet isn’t for everyone, but if you’re open to it, I think you will really enjoy it! It’s a wonderful outing - the Four Seasons Centre is one of the most beautiful buildings in Toronto, and you’re steps away from a great dinner or drinks afterward on Queen St. West. The next show is The Sleeping Beauty (June 10-20)!And for all of you old farts who don’t fall in to the 16-29 age category, don’t worry! I haven’t forgotten about you! Check out the Events Calendar for the Four Seasons Free Concert series. These are typically shorter performances, and can include vocal, jazz, dance, chamber, and world music. When I was still a student at Ryerson, I would go on my lunch breaks. Go early to get a good seat!Me at Alice in Wonderland:AliceFirst Image of Karen Kain in Swan Lake
